Match Report 1st XI Vs Kenilworth Wardens

Birmingham Premier League

Kenilworth Wardens 200ao v Berkswell 287/6

Berkswell returned from their trip to Kenilworth Wardens having extended their lead at the top of the league table to 32 points following an 87 run victory.

Batting first, the visitors to Glasshouse Park posted an impressive 287 for six with Tom Milnes top scoring with 66 not out. Dan Mousley (58), Nick James (46), Ateeq Javid (40), and Richard Jones (40 not out) all contributed to the total that made it mission impossible for the Wardens who are currently struggling at the bottom of the league. For the Wardens James Sykes was the most successful bowler with 4 for 77.

In their reply, the hosts found it hard to make any headway against the Berkswell opening attack of Milnes and Jones, and had lost openers Tom Brammer (9), and Nick Seager (9) by the ninth over with only 23 on the scoreboard. A partnership of 48 in thirteen overs between Finn McCreath and Harry Johnson came to an end when McCreath (9) was caught by Dominic Ostler off the bowling of Javid. Nathan Edwards (2) was then bowled by James, and at 114 in the 35th over James trapped Harry Butler (16) lbw. Meanwhile, Johnson continued to hold the innings together, but when he was bowled by James for a well earned 66 at 139 in the 39th over any likelihood of the match being won diminished. A brisk 27 off 17 balls from Richard Linfield, and a quickfire 35 off 19 balls by Sykes moved the Wardens nearer the 200 mark, but with the overs running out, holding on for a draw seemed the most likely outcome. However with Linfield, and Sykes, falling to the spin bowling of Mousley, both departing in quick succession at 170 and 185 respectively, and Mousley then holding an outstanding slip catch to remove Mark Pidgeon (3) at 187 a draw now looked unlikely. With the last pair, Tommy Rex and Matt Hancock at the crease they managed to get the score to 200, but Rex (10) then was caught behind by Liam Gately and the innings came to a close in the 51st over. For Berkswell, Jones finished with figures of 3 for 22, James 3 for 72, and Mousley 2 for 17.

On Saturday, Berkswell return to Meeting House Lane to face Kidderminster who were promoted back to Division 1 at the end of last season.
