This 2019 season saw a further growth in Junior membership to 135, and an increased number of teams, especially at the younger age ranges, as we expanded our softball programme for boys and girls, as well as reaching the County Under 10 semi-finals.
Our U16 team again won the Coventry Cup, further emphasising the strength in depth of young players coming through to the Mens senior teams. It is pleasing that these players are coming through and benefitting from the continued investment in and development of local young talent. We firmly believe that developing our local players builds a sustainable path for Berkswell Cricket into the future.
This year we will continue that development by providing a proven professional coaching scheme using Complete Cricket, with access to the best coaches in the area, many of whom are highly qualified former professional players. Many of the coaches also represent the Club’s senior sides, so providing a unique pathway to develop our youngsters into Senior cricket and towards representative honours.
Berkswell CC seeks to provide a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment for young players of both sexes. This is backed up by a robust policy framework, and is recognised by the nationally approved Clubmark standard, which we renewed last year.
Your children can grow with us from the ECB All Stars scheme for 5-8 year olds through our Softball cricket for 9-10 year olds, into Hardball cricket at 10 and beyond. We are boosting our links with local schools in 2020 to provide more opportunities for local children to take up and enjoy cricket. The ECB’s new family orientated competition The Hundred launches during the summer holidays to attract more children and their families to the sport.
We have already seen the feedback and interest created by England’s World Cup win last July and the exciting Ashes series that followed, as we have had record numbers attending our Winter training sessions, which we have extended to cope with the extra demand.
We will again field a record number of junior teams from age 9 through to 19 in 2020, with a new Girls U11 team being launched alongside the other boys and mixed teams. This breadth of sides means we can aim for both wide participation and high performance as players develop through the age groups.
As part of this year’s membership package, all Juniors will receive new white playing shirts, featuring our new Lead Shirt sponsor Triple Point, an alternative investment management company, whilst we will benefit from continued generous sponsorship from Nationwide Windows, our Development partners, and Lexus Coventry. Thanks to all of them for their support.
May I take this opportunity to welcome all new and returning junior players, parents and families to Berkswell Cricket Club.
